What We’re Hearing: New music from The Strokes, Survival Knife, and more!

Lots of  great new music this week!  Let’s jump right in . . . ^Mike

Caitlin Rose – The Stand-In

Nashville’s own Caitlin Rose has a new album coming out next week, and The Independent has an exclusive stream of the full album.  Like her last LP,  2010’s Own Side Now, it’s the best kind of country music, the kind that most people don’t think still exists: honest, heartbreaking, funny, and impeccably crafted.  Pick it up from Names Records on February 25th. The Strokes – “All The Time”

One of the most consistant pop rock bands around, The Strokes, are releasing their fifth LP, Comedown Machine on March 26th, and based on the latest track they’ve previewed, we can’t wait.  “All The Time” is a mid-tempo foot-stomper, with a characteristically tasteful solo that harkens back to their early-aughts heyday. Survival Knife – “Name That Tune”

Unwound‘s Justin Trosper and Brent Sandino are back, more than a decade since that band’s last LP, with a new group, Survival Knife, and a new single, due next month on Sub Pop Records.  “Name That Tune” has all the guitar daring and shout-along power of a classic Unwound track, with an extra dose of hardcore crunch.  Can’t wait to hear what comes next! Night Marchers – Allez! Allez!

The latest from San Diego guitar deity (and Yo Gabba Gabba’s “Swami”) John Reis (Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes), this is probably the best rock record anyone will put out this year, unless Reiss has anything else planned we don’t know about.  Allez! Allez! has been out for a few weeks on CD and from iTunes, but the LP just landed down at Grimey’s and reputable record stores nation wide.
