Hooray for iPad Day!

Hooray for iPad Day!

iPad day is here! The rumors were true!

We asked last week what you would do if Apple released it’s long awaited tablet. The majority of you voted to add it to your wish lists. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that your wishes come true (it’s on my list too).

Now that the iPad is alive, you’re going to need a to protect it. We’ve been working hard to develop some great options for you.

Elan Sleeve
Slim enough to slip into a backpack, bag or briefcase; tough enough to protect your Apple iPad from whatever it may bump into in there. Slip your iPad into the Elan Sleeve, then flip the tab closure down to secure it. Gently pull the tab to slide your iPad out quickly and safely. For protection that looks great, Elan Sleeve is constructed of a stain-resistant synthetic outer shell with a smooth micro suede interior.
Available for $34.99 in Spring.

Elan Passport case for iPad

Elan Passport
No matter where you and your iPad are headed, you can both travel in style with Elan Passport. The one-piece folio flips open to reveal your iPad’s Multi-Touch display, then closes like a book for privacy and protection. Elan Passport’s micro suede lining protects your iPad, all over, from scratches and smudges. Held shut by a tab closure, the inner cover includes pockets for ID, important papers, and more. You’re going to take your iPad everywhere. So you’ll need the case that’s ready for anything.
Available for $44.99 in Spring.

FlexGrip
Our FlexGrip case wraps your Apple iPad in durable silicone that’s easy to grip and protects against dirt, dings, dents and scratches. Fits snug around your iPad, and allows complete access to audio output jack, dock connector, Multi-Touch display and all controls. FlexGrip is available in 4 complementary colors: blue, white, black and purple. Available for $29.99 in Spring.

Jumper
Jumper is a soft and stretchy yet tough neoprene sleeve that protects iPad from dust, dirt, scratches and fingerprints. The integrated pull tab tucks closed for 100 percent coverage of iPad. Jumper is slim enough to fit easily into your bag, backpack or briefcase. Available for $29.99 in Spring.

Screen Care Kit, Matte
Do something nice for the Multi-Touch display that does so much for you. Clean and protect your touchscreen with our Screen Care Kit. The included premium cleaning cloth removes smudges, dust and fingerprints without messy liquids, and without scratching your screen. Then smooth on lasting protection with a static peel screen protector to keep grit and dust away from your touchscreen. Matte finish minimizes fingerprints and cuts down on screen glare. Available for $24.99 in Spring.

Leave me a comment and I’ll be sure to notify you when these products become available. Happy iPad Day!

How about a wall mount (maybe with speakers)? Once the iPad is mounted, you can then rotate it as portrait or landscape – mechanism similar to a phone holster.

All the cases look great, can't wait to get the iPad and a Griffin case/sleeve.

Interesting ideas Ben. Thanks very much.

One other thought, Speck makes awesome had plastic cases for the Macbook Pro (I have an orange one). I’m sure they’ll done something similar for the iPad. They’re thin, lightweight and very durable.

You could try to do something along those lines. No reason they should own that market.

I think the other opening might be vinyl appliques. I don’t know how difficult those would be to manufacture and install but it’s another light, cheap and durable way to protect the aluminum back on the iPad.

    Good luck!

It's a question, really. They say it's not a telephone, but neither is my Mac. My Mac can do Skype, can the iPad?

  5. Dave Delaney says:

I'm not a 100%, but I expect so via WiFi.

  6. Ell10tt says:

Thanks. I'm still wondering why they left out ibiquity radio and
digital television, but it's probably to keep the initial cost down,
    not for lack of space.

Good questions. I suppose time will tell.

  8. Spring says:

    “Available for $29.99 in Spring.”

Shouldn't that say “the Spring” … or is it going to be available just anytime someone is feeling “Spring”?

  9. russellfrost says:

Looks like a strong line up. I'm glad you avoided the plastic, two piece style cases vis a vis the iPhone. Not my favorites. You might consider adding color or style to the silicone line. I have a feeling that will come later though. Will the Jumper hold an iPad with a FlexGrip installed? Something you might want to consider.

I think you have all the bases covered.

  10. Dave Delaney says:

Thanks Russell. Yes, they should fit.

  11. russellfrost says:

By the way, I love the idea of a flex arm wall mount though I suspect that's a bit outside the mission of GT. I've been considering something like that for my wife when she surfs in the bedroom. The problems are, of course, the expense of the item and the exceptionally varied nature of the needs of each customer in using a flex arm. Still, it's a cool idea. Maybe someone there has a brainstorm. There should be a more comfortable way of surfing in bed without propping the device on your knees.

  12. Dave Delaney says:

Thanks Russell, great points. We're always open to suggestions.

    Cheers,
    Dave

It has a mic and a speaker, so I don't see why not… at least over WiFi with Skype, Yahoo, etc. It can also use BT headsets as well as the Apple iPhone earbuds w/ mic.

Of course, the VoIP on 3G ban was just lifted in the SDK, so that could be good news as well.

wow, you guys are ready for the ipad, the cases look nice, id definatlly buy from you guys when/if i get an ipad, just curious would the powerjolt SE be able to charge an ipad?

  15. Dave Delaney says:

Thank you. We won't know until we can get one to test.
    We'll have updates this Spring.

Like Griffin's design very much. which one will be available first? I prefer Passport one… but well, do we have any other colors for this product? I am sure deep blue and purple will sell better than black only. Another thing is, I am in UK, will it come out at same time with USA?

  17. Dave Delaney says:

Thanks. I don't know exactly which product will be available first at this time. The products will be the available only in the colours listed on our site, but new colours are always possible after launch.

The iPad cases will be available in the UK when the iPad is available.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Would also love to see a wall mount for the ipad. Would be brilliant to be able to check the internet and emails last thing at night and first thing in the morning. Please!

  19. Dave Delaney says:

Thanks Charles. I'll forward that request along.

I'm very excited about the new iPad. But some of the missing features from iPad has put a pause in my eagerness to purchase…

It would be nice to extend the Simplifi Dock concept to the new iPads to give it USB ports. Such a shame you can plug in a thumb drive or other popular media to share/transfer simple files!

Maybe something that doesn't get in the way of the keyboard dock for iPad. Like an adapter we can plug in as needed (on the go) that gives us a USB port to transfer and share files. This way I can use it as a highly portable tablet with a small, temporary (as needed) USB port option.

The only other feature I'd like to see is a built-in video cam on the iPad. We are (so far) all guessing that Skype will work though Apple did not feature iChat for iPad. Second to that, the option to say… plug-in video cam? iPad already has the mic. We just need a cam! That would hopefully make video conferencing a possibility on the iPad.

  21. Dave Delaney says:

Thanks for the thoughts Elsie. I agree with many of your points here.

I can assure you that once we have the physical device we'll work hard
to dream up and develop some cool accessories.

    Cheers.

The passport's marketing copy doesn't make it out to be the right size to go into another bag or briefcase. What's the added bulk of the passport over something like this sleeve?

  23. Dave Delaney says:

    Passport is: 8.25″ length / 1.00″ width / 10.00″ height.
The added bulk should be slight compared with Sleeve.

Both should be fine to add to your bag or briefcase.

    Cheers,
    Dave

I've been reading many articles on the ipad. I'm happy that I found this site. I'm trying to be able to travel without my laptop or phone. I was hoping that the ipad would have taken it's place. But I don't see that happening.

  25. jbn says:

look at this! the perfect wall mount for your ipad!

  26. Dave Delaney says:

Funny you should mention that Ronnie. Our president (Mark Rowan, not Obama)
is currently traveling to Hong Kong exclusively with his iPad, so far so
    good.
Why don't you see it happening?

  27. First of all I wish I was heading to China. I try to just manage projects when I'm out of town but sometimes I need to work hands on a creative project. I really need the iPad to have a simplified version of Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Also the ability to view Flash SWF files would be nice. I heard that Apple is trying to push flash out. Anyone know more about that?

I now have been using my iPad for two days. It has gone through a full day workout with my kids (who are enthralled by it) and a full day of work as an itinerant professional in the public schools, using apps that I had purchased for my iPod Touch and using the Netflix app. It has been used as a remote desktop for work; a note taking device; a book reader; a word processing device; and a music player. The only thing it has not yet been used for is games. Movies look impressive on Netflix. As a remote desktop, it runs fairly zippy on a local network, but a tad slow over the Internet. All of my iPod Touch apps run fast, although half of them look somewhat granular in 2X mode. Pages runs really well and opens all of my templates. Someone had commented that it messes up formatting when transferring between files, although this has not been the case with me. Regarding weight, it is lighter than I thought. I can easily whip it out of my carrying case and jot a quick note in the hall. The wifi reception rivals my MacBook. I have yet to drain the battery to check battery life. Overall, it has performed impressively. The only negative thing right now is the fingerprints when the iPad is off. It can look really dirty and I find myself cleaning it often. more detail http://tiny.cc/eejvf

Thanks Charlie. I'm happy to hear you're enjoying iPad.
Have you looked at our Screen Care Kit?

As for games, I only really know Angry Birds. It's very fun and highly
    addictive :)

    I hope this helps,
    Dave

I like the ipad but I'm still waiting for something newer to come out. Is there anything new coming out on the market that is going to offer a little more?

  31. Dave Delaney says:

You never know what Apple has planned next. We'll see.
