Job Shadow Day at Griffin
We love the opportunity to visit local schools, and are able to spend a lot of time at our partner school, Hunters Lane High School in Nashville. As much as we like to feel like we are back in high school, though, we got the chance to turn the tables last week and have the students job shadow with us in the “real world” at our office.
Fourteen juniors and seniors took a day out of their Spring Break to spend the day learning from the designers, photographers, and engineers at Griffin Technology. You read that right. They chose to learn during Spring Break, which we thought was very impressive! We started off with a group tour where the students were able to meet and greet with the guys in Griffin’s prototype shop and learn how we use metal prototyping machines and 3D printers to make our business more efficient, including a stop in the Electrical Engineering Lab to watch circuit boards being made under the microscope.
Many students who visited are interested in design so were able to split up and spend one-on-one time with product designers, packaging designers, and web designers to get a better idea of what it is like to be a professional designer. Some were able to ask questions about projects they are working on at school, and others took the wheels and did some designing themselves!
At the end of a hard day’s job shadow, we celebrated the way we know best: with a pizza party! We loved getting to know some of the students in the Design and Technology Academy at Hunters Lane better and, who knows, we have even found some of the next generation of employees at Griffin Technology!
